Description
Born in 1954. Graduated from the Tokyo University Graduate School of Architecture. Established Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990. After serving as a professor at the University of Tokyo, he is currently a special professor and professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo. Hewas inspired by Tange Kenzo's Yoyogi Indoor Stadium, which he saw during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and aspired to become an architect from an early age. At university, he studied under Hiroshi Hara and Yoshiya Uchida, and during his graduate school years, he crossed the Sahara Desert in Africa, surveyed settlements, and became aware of their beauty and power. After serving as a visiting researcher at Columbia University, Kengo Kuma and Associates was established in 1990. He has designed buildings in over 20 countries and has received various awards.
